On Thursday, April 3, Justina Hackman received the ONU School of Education “Student of the Year” award. Each year, one student is chosen based on their academic achievement, servant leadership, active participation in the Student Education Association, and their commitment to the conceptual framework of the School of Education.
When asked to respond to the award, Justina said, “I was so shocked that I was the student to receive the student of the year award. I feel that there are so many deserving education majors that are dedicated to teaching, passionate about what they do, and exhibit Christ like character in everyday life. I feel so blessed to be at Olivet Nazarene University and have many valuable opportunities that have helped to mold me as a teacher.”

On Friday, January 25, 2008, Olivet will host its first ever Career Fair Day. The event is in Chalfant Hall from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and will be a wonderful opportunity for those of you senior education majors who need a job for the fall. Juniors are also welcome! You will have a chance to meet potential employers, give them your resume, and talk with them briefly about yourself and your interest in teaching. We have heard from quite a few neighboring schools that will be represented at the fair, and there are some schools from the Chicago suburbs who will also be in attendance that day. We will have more information on the Career Fair for you in the future, including what schools will be coming, but please make sure to get this on your calendar!

Our first Alumni Spotlight is on Gail Becker, a 2002 graduate of the School of Education and a 2007 graduate of Olivet’s Master of Arts in Education program. Gail has an amazing testimony of God’s saving grace in her life. Last year, Gail was baptized, and during her baptism, our very own Dr. Dale Oswalt read her testimony because of the strong influence he had on her life. To read her wonderful story, view the article recently added to Olivet Nazarene University’s news site called Saving Grace. She is truly an inspiration.
